National Honour: A Worthy Recognition For Me And The Entire Governors - Saraki
Governor Saraki who made the remark while commenting on the National Honours after the ceremony in a media chat, said the fact that he is the first serving Governor in the country to be so honoured, shows that elected governors in the country are now being given the recognition they deseverd in national honour’s list.
According to him, over the last eleven years ispite of the fact that most of the governors have been putting in, their best in the development of their respective states through good governance, none had been given the National Honours Award as it has always been for other office holders in the country, be it within the civil service, Legislative arm of government, traditional institution, the Military etc.
He said: "The Honour bestowed on me today is no doubt, not only a recognition for me but the entire serving Governors in the country, which to me, is a right decision taken in the right direction for further inspiring other governors to put in their best in the development of their states".
On whether the Honour was bestowed on him because of his leadership of the Nigerian Governors' Forum, Saraki said since he was not a member of the Award committee, he wouldn’t know exactly, the reason why they gave him the Award as a serving governor but added that thre couldn’t have been any other reason for the Honour than the Good Governence he has been running in Kwara State over the last seven years.
Saraki added that like every other awrd he had been given within the last seven years, the National Honour done him yesterday, will further spur him into doing more for Kwara State in terms of development across the state in the remaining 9months of his administration.
