Gov's Wife Adopts 960 Indigent Children in Two Years

Date: 2014-11-22

Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, the wife of Kwara Governor, on Friday in Ilofa in Oke-Ero Local Government Area of the state, adopted 175 indigent children.

These will add up to 960 children she has adopted within two years.

Mrs Ahmed adopted the 175 children at the ongoing empowerment programme for women across the 16 local government areas of the state.

She said that her "Adopt a Child Programme" had afforded her the opportunity to take care and educate indigent children.

"My adoption programme is in accordance with adopting a child scheme created for the children of less-privileged," she said.

The Founder of Life Empowerment Anchors Hope (LEAH) programme provided the 175 children from the remote Ologede village in Oke-Ero council with uniforms, school books, socks, school bags and daily lunch, among others.

According to her, the programme will continue to reach out to children of the indigent who are handicapped due to lack of necessary schooling materials.

She also pledged to give education to these children to the best of her ability.

Ahmed also distributed hairdressing machine, grinding machines, coolers and warmers to more than 100 women in the communities, while 630 were given textile materials.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Biola Adimula, Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Affairs, called on the women to make judicious use of the facilities to boost their trading activities.

Adimula commended the Kwara First Lady for the initiative, which she said, had afforded the children the opportunity to get good education.

She said that the daily lunch being given to the children would be "a stay in school incentive".

Ahmed also distributed similar empowerment materials to various women groups in Oke-Oyi and Ilorin East Local Government Areas. (NAN)
