IWF congratulates Unilorin

Date: 2014-11-21

The Islamic Welfare Foundation (IWF) has congratulated the University of Ilorin for emerging as the best University in Nigeria and for the national awards of the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) and Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR), which the Federal Government of Nigeria conferred on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, and his immediate past predecessor, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.

The National Coordinator of the Foundation, Dr. Aliu Badmus, who made this commendation last Monday, November 10, 2014, when he led a delegation of the Foundation on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, said that the recognitions given to the Vice-Chancellor and the University were no mean feat.

Dr. Badmus disclosed that the Foundation plans to host a conference on Islam in Nigeria in collaboration with the Centre for Ilorin Studies (CILS) between November 23 and November 26, 2014. The conference is expected to be declared open by the President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar.

He said that IWF took cognizance of the town-and-gown outlook of Unilorin before arriving at the decision to approach the Centre for Ilorin Studies for partnership on the all-important conference. He therefore sought for logistics assistance from the management of the University towards a hitch-free conference.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, thanked the delegation of the IWF for the visit and the compliments. He also expressed appreciation to the Foundation for choosing the University as venue for the conference.

Prof. Ambali noted that the relationship between the University and the Foundation had hatched a good environment for the flourishing of an excellent town and gown relationship. He pledged that the University would continue to strive to make Nigeria proud by collaborating with the best institutions and countries based on their educational standard.
