One injured in Ilorin protest
One person was injured as people protested in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on Saturday.
One of the protests occurred at Gambari area of Ilorin, following a clash between members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and some civilians. The cause of the clash was not known at the time of filing the report.
The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, in a telephone interview with our correspondent confirmed the clash.
He said, "One person was injured when civilians and members of the Civil Defense had a misunderstanding at Gambari area. The matter has been resolved. There was no arrest."
Meanwhile, scores of members of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State also protested against what they called injustice in the selection of aspirants for nomination for elective posts in 2015.
The members who identified themselves as members of the legacy party that formed APC protested near the Iloffa GRA residence of the Kwara State APC leader, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and at the Government Secondary School, near Maraba, Ilorin.
They carried placards with different inscriptions that decried the alleged non-inclusion of their aspirants as those approved for nomination for the elective offices.
Some of the placards read: 'No to imposition of candidates in APC in Kwara State.' 'No to injustice in selection of aspirants.' 'We want level-playing grounds in Kwara APC. No selection.'
Mr. Isiaka Bara and Monsurat Omotoso, who spoke on behalf of the protesters, said, "We are calling on the national body and all stakeholders in APC to address the issue. We are not leaving the party on the consequence of injustice.
"They picked all the people that happen to be old Sarakite. There is no legacy member in all the elective position. This is unfortunate and we are saying no to that selection. We are saying no to intimidation and injustice."
Omotoso said they gathered against injustice, adding that there should be merit and equity in the party affairs.
Meanwhile, the APC, Kwara State chapter, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Sulyman Buhari, assured its members that primary elections for all elective positions would hold as earlier scheduled and in line with the commitment of the party to internal and participatory democracy.
