Kwara State Governor Blames Flooding On Asa River Project

Date: 2014-10-02

Kwara State Governor Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has blamed the recent flooding in the state capital on the non-completion of the Asa River channelisation work by the federal government.

An early morning rainfall Tuesday destroyed property worth millions of naira in Ilorin as the state continues to experience flooding due to heavy rainfall.

The dredging and channelisation of the Asa River was conceived as a permanent solution to the recurring flooding. It was gathered that the project being handled by the Federal Ministry of Environment was divided into three phases and only the first phase has been completed.

The governor while speaking in Ilorin yesterday during an empowerment programme organised by a member of the House of Representatives representing Ilorin West/Asa federal constituency, Moshood Mustapha, blamed the flooding on non-completion of the project.

But he said the state government would not leave the people to continue to suffer.
