'Trade unions should be organised to succeed'
Trade unions in the country have been urged to organise their practices in order to succeed and successfully defend the rights of workers and the Nigerian masses.
This was disclosed recently in a three-day capacity building and skills development workshop organized by the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria NUTGTWN) in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES).
The workshop was organised for unionists, self-employed tailors and small scale garment makers held at the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, Kwara State.
A communique jointly signed by the president of the union Comrade Oladele Hunsu and its general secretary Comrade Issa Aremu, stressed the need for workers to come together to solve problems encountered in workplaces.
The communique, which tasked members to organize to save the movement from collapsing added that the "union's organizing effort should go beyond organizing workers in the factory and organizing the unorganized to also include organizing ways to save the industry".
