No plan to impeach Gov Ahmed - Kwara House of Assembly ...says we are not divided

Date: 2014-08-04

The Majority Leader, Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulkareem Abdulganiyu, has denied rumour that the House had concluded arrangements to impeach the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.

There were speculations that the House was divided over the second term ambition of the governor, who is from Ifelodun Local Government area of the state.

It was alleged that the state Lawmakers were divided on the 'interest' line, which made some of them from Kwara South Senatorial District to be reportedly rooting for his second term.

However, the development took another dimension over the weekend when it was alleged that some Lawmakers, who were reportedly against the governor had perfected move to impeach him for 'insubordination'.

But speaking exclusively to National Pilot on Saturday in a telephone chat, Abdulganiyu denied that the House was polarised over the second term ambition of the governor.

He also declared that there was no plan to impeach the governor, adding that the House was united and formidable.

"As far as I am concerned, there is no plan to impeach our governor. And how would that happen? Virtually, all of us are from the same party that is controlled by our Leader, Dr. Bukola Saraki and who will lead the move?

"We are subjective to the directive of the leader and he and the governor are in good accord. So, I don't know where the allegation is coming from. But, like I told you earlier, there is no plan to impeach Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed", he disclosed.

When asked on the alleged polarisation of the House, Abdulganiyu, who represents Share/Oke-Ode Constituency in the State House of Assembly, described it as mere speculation, which according to him, was an infringement of imagination of the enemies of the House.

The Majority Leader said, "I don't know where they got all these rumours from. But I can tell you that the House is not divided over whatever name. And I can tell you, we are one because majority of us are from the same party. So, what will cause division among us?".

Another member of the House, who did not want his name in print, said that there was no iota of truth in the speculations that Kwara Lawmakers would impeach the governor.

The lawmaker said," Let me tell you, there is no way the state governor will be impeached without the approval of the state lawmakers. And as I am talking to you, to the best of my ability, there is plan to that effect.

"Yes, people may be peddling the impeachment rumour in the state because of the spate of the impeachments in the country ahead of the 2015 General Election, but only governors who are not on ground can be impeached.

"But our case is different in Kwara State because our governor has the backing of Dr. Bukola Saraki, who is the Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. Also, our governor has performed creditably well.

"

So, I don't believe that the rumour mongers and their sponsors will succeed in their dreams of throwing the state into chaos and lawlessness as being witnessed in some states".
