APC hopeful of retaining Kwara in 2015
Kwara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to remove Kwara State among the states the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) aim to win in 2015 general elections.
Secretary of the APC in Kwara, Yemi Afolayan yesterday told The Guardian in Ilorin that the existing political structure in the state under the control of the APC was too strong for the new Minister of Planning and Development, Dr. Suleiman Abubakar to "dismantle at the directive" of the president.
Abubakar, shortly after being sworn in as the minister had reportedly said he was mandated allegedly by the president, among other things to deliver the state for PDP by dismantling the political hegemony of Dr. Bukola Saraki.
Afolayan maintained that the Kwara political structure built over 40 years ago by the late Dr. Olusola Saraki and now under the firm control of his son, Dr. Bukola Saraki is too strong for anyone to dismantle.
"Therefore, it is unfortunate that the new minister (Abubakar) a University teacher, who has lost touch with his root will be given this tall order. It shows that Mr. President is completely unaware of the political setting in Kwara state. Otherwise, he should not have given the order to the man who as at the time of his appointment had no PDP registration card. So, our conclusion is that Mr. President chose the wrong person for the job. Therefore, the assignment had failed before commencement."
