Poly Lecturer Dies In Flood

Tragedy struck in Ede, headquarters of Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State Saturday when a 45-year-old man identified as Adeniyi Adebowale was overwhelmed in a flood disaster that ravaged the town, following a heavy downpour.

The incident occurred at the popular Oke Gada area of the town after a protracted rainfall that began Friday.

The victim was said to have been a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Food Technology, Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State.

Adebowale was going to Ede from Offa, to spend the weekend when he ran into floodwater. A source at the scene of the incident said that the deceased was travelling in his Toyota Camry car with registration number LSD783CA when the vehicle was submerged.

The late teacher, who was said to be living with his family members at the Oke-Gada area, was a short distance away from his residence when tragedy struck. The deceased reportedly communicated with his wife, Mrs. Sade Adebowale, few minutes before the unfortunate incident.

The Guardian learnt that the deceased was warned by other drivers not to dare the road but he rebuffed their advice.

The Osun state's Commissioner for Environment, Mrs. Olubukola Oyawoye, who said she had visited the scene of the incident and the family of the deceased warned residents of the state against blocking drainages with refuse.
