KWSG bans transport unions' patrol on Offa/Erin-Ile road

Date: 2014-07-13

In order to strengthen the existing peace between Offa and Erin-Ile, the local governments of Offa and Oyun in Kwara State at its Joint Peace and Security meeting held on Thursday July 10, 2014 resolved that it has become an offence for a member or body of the two Local Governments NURTW to ply the Federal road on patrol.

The Old garages for the two Unions shall be Idi-Ogun for Offa and Police Station junction for Erin-Ile.

It was equally resolved that the two Local Governments be mandated to erect signposts and the security agencies should enforce ‘’ No loading of passengers’’ within a reasonable meters to the unity road of both Offa and Erin-Ile communities.

It has become expedient for each of the Unions to relocate to their old garages in line with the Kwara State Government’s directive dated 8th day of January, 2013 vide circular No. MLGCA/L/508/111/537 and line also with the resolutions of the State wing of the NURTW dated 5th July, 2014.

That, henceforth/forthwith, there shall be no any further traces of patrol system along the Federal road from Erin-Ile to Offa and vice versa.

Any form of patrol has been declared illegal and that the Union leadership are directed to advise their members not to be used to ferment trouble.

The meeting therefore empowers the various security agents in both Local Governments to enforce strict compliance of the above resolutions for peace to reign between the two branches of transport unions of Offa and Erin-Ile.
