Cultists kill college student in Kwara
Rivalry between two cult groups in Oro, a town in Irepodun local government area of Kwara State has claimed the life of a student of the State College of Education, Oro, identified as Oladokun Kayode while one was seriously injured.
It was also learnt that another student of the college, AbduRasak Abdullahi was macheted by the rampaging cultists. The deceased, a 300 level student of Department of Computer Science/Mathematics was allegedly shot dead outside the school campus while returning from a football viewing centre around 9:00 p.m.
Abdulrasak, a 200 level student, also of the same department was inflicted with severe injuries all over his body while attempting to escape from his attackers.
The onslaught, according to a source, was not unconnected with reprisal attacks on one of the rival secret cults member that was earlier macheted by members of another cult group few weeks ago.
Narrating his ordeal, a victim who does not want his name printed, explained that he had just broken his fast on the fateful day when his late friend, AbdulRasak requested him to accompany him to see his girl friend off campus.
>His words: "We were on our way to the house of Rasak's girlfriend at Atlanta villa, off campus when we ran into two students of the school, who were heading in another direction with some strangers coming behind.
We exchanged greetings and I queried one of them why he was smoking cigarette during Ramadan. The next thing we heard was a command by the second person".
He alleged that they were captured by one of the strangers who he later identified as cultist, adding that he managed to escape with a minor injury after he hit his captor with elbow.
"While I was able to escape, my friend (AbdulRasak) was unlucky as he fell while running and was seriously matcheted by his assailants. He later escaped on a third attempt and was rescued by residents of Dignity villa, who later rushed him to the General Hospital, Oro", he lamented.
Confirming the incident, the institution's chief security officer, Mr. Caleb Banigbe, said: "The incident happened off campus, but it was the police that drew our attention to confirm whether the deceased was a student of our school or not".
All efforts to get confirmation from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ajayi Okansanmi proved abortive as his phone was switched when a call was put to him.
