Milo African Championship: Omodara Predicts Victory for Nigeria's U-13
Omodara Tope, a pupil of St. Barnabas LGEA, Kwara State has predicted that his school will reclaim the Milo U-13 African Championship (MAC) for Nigeria when the competition kicks off in Lagos tomorrow.
Nigeria won the inaugural edition of the Championship in South Africa in 2010 through Ashegun School from Oyo State but lost in the finals two years after when St. Stephens School, Lagos lost their Ghanaian hosts. But Tope, a primary five pupil and striker for the team which was recently presented to the Media in Lagos hinged his optimism on the support they have received from Nestle Plc, producers of Milo since winning the championship.
"Nigeria will win the cup, I know because we have been preparing very well and have enjoyed Milo since we won the national championship", disclosed Tope who has already played in an U13 Championship in Benin Republic.
At the unveiling of the championship in Lagos recently, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nestle Plc, Nigeria, Mr. Dharnesh Gordhon had explained that the Championship aims to promote cross-cultural ties, and discipline through football.
With three goals in seven games for his school, Tope boasts that he will score more goals in the MAC because Nigeria will be hosting. "I want to be the highest goal scorer and because we are in Nigeria, I will by God’s grace score more goals to help my team win for Nigeria", said the 11 year old lad.
Tope hopes to play professional football after completing his education and looks forward to starting with his home State side, Kwara United. "My favourite club is Manchester United and I want to play football after school with Kwara United. One day, I will play for Nigeria as I am going to do at the Milo African Championship", vowed Tope who also expressed appreciation to Milo for bringing him to Lagos for the first time.
