BRAZIL 2014: NFF distracting Keshi -Adepoju
Nigerian former international, Mutiu Adepoju, has expressed worries that distractions from both the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and several Nigerians might spell doom for the Super Eagles at the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to Daily Sunsports on telephone from his Kwara Football Academy base in Ilorin, Adepoju listed the distractions as the pressure on Coach Stephen Keshi to release the team's list as well as the compulsory inclusion of certain players in the list. He, therefore, argued that Nigerians and the football federation might be making things very difficult for the coach.
Asked his fears for the Super Eagles' participation in the prestigious event, he said: "What I fear most is all these distractions to Keshi. It is obvious that we are not giving Keshi the benefit of doubt to do his job. I think we might be making things very difficult for him with our actions."
On his take on the possible return of the like of Osaze, Ike Uche and Yobo and his advice to Keshi, 'the headmaster,' as friends and acquaintances fondly call him, urged Nigerians and the federation to trust Keshi's sense of judgement.
His words: "It is expected that individually and even sometimes collectively, there must be clamour for the inclusion of one player or the other in the list, but I want to say that it is the coach who knows the kind of players that would actually do the job for him and the country."
"I plead with Nigerians not to pressurise him into making wrong choices by imposing certain players he may not want on him. As for my advice to Keshi, I want to say that I know very well that as an experienced coach with a World Cup experience, Keshi knows what to do.
"My advice to him is to remain focused and work on the psychology of his players. He must remain in constant touch with his players. I don't believe in all these distractions. I want to appeal that he should be allowed to release the team list at his convenience. It is not the best for the public to put pressure on the coach to release the list. He knows the players he wants to invite and I advise we give him the benefit of doubt to give us the best," he noted.
