Courtesy calls by Nigerian Academy of letters

Nigerians have been advised to work together for a better, strong and virile nation that will be envy of all.

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed gave the advice yesterday while receiving members of the Nigerian Academy of Letters led by its President, Professor Ben Elugbe who paid him a courtesy call at the Government House, Ilorin.

Governor Ahmed said though Nigeria has infrastructural, security and socio-cultural challenges like most emerging nations of the world, "our collective resolve to live as a united nation is needed to surmount the challenges".

According to him, the challenges required to be surmounted through dialogue, lectures, seminars and workshops to educate the people on various issues affecting the corporate existence of the country.

Governor Ahmed said the Nigerian youth is displeased with the nation because of systemic failure of the past which has not guarantee his future. "To arrest this", the Governor said, "we must begin to earnest our different strengths to come out with an hybrid for the nation's social economic transformation".

Alhaji Ahmed said the academics has continue to contribute to the development of the educational and economic sectors of the country as the global trend has had its toll on the nation’s economy.

The governor urged the Academy to make its findings and resolutions available to decision makers for the good of the nation.

Earlier, the President of the Nigeria Academy of Letters, Professor Ben Elugbe said that they were in the State for their annual lectures holding at the University of Ilorin, the state capital.
