Motorists lament fuel scarcity in Kwara
The Kwara State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Isa Ore, has lamented the seemingly unending fuel scarcity in the state, urging the federal and state governments to make available the commodity.
Ore, who spoke to Daily Trust on the nationwide fuel crisis, said his members have not increased fares, warning that commercial motorists might be forced to increase their fare if the scarcity persists.
Daily Trust gathered that most filling stations in Ilorin now dispense fuel to motorists at between N120 and N130 per litre.
For the past one month, the state has been experiencing fuel scarcity with the situation precipitating astronomical rise in the prices of some products.
Daily Trust correspondent who monitored the situation in Ilorin and its environs, yesterday, reported that many independent filling stations that hitherto shut because they went out of stocks, have started dispensing fuel to motorists at N120 and N130 per litre.
Most NNPC mega stations which normally sell at the official rate of N97 were not dispensing fuel when our correspondent checked.
State Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers' Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Alhaji Abdulrasheed Olapade, in a chat with Daily Trust said: "The situation is not unconnected with the fact that we have stopped loading from Ilorin depot. The only antidote to this problem is for us to be loading at the local level and we pray our normal loading would resume so that the situation would normalise."
