A middle-aged man, Oseni Abdul-Jelili of Popo Market, Offa, Kwara State, has been 'charged before all Ilorin Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly causing the death of a motorcyclist.

The cyclist, Saka Suhuti of Ile-Eleburuke Compound, Adagba, Ilorin, died following a collision with a the accused vehicle with registration number Kwara AQ 217 FFA along Ahmadu Bello way, lIorin, on April 12, 2012.

The deceased sustained tra serious injuries and was taken to hospital. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, he later died because of his injuries.

Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that the accused drove the said vehicle in a manner which is dangerous to the public, having no regards to the nature, condition and amount of traffic which might reasonably be expected to be on the highway with re excessive speed.

The FIR added that the accused lost control of the said In vehicle and knocked down the deceased who sustained injuries and was rushed to University of IIorin Teaching Hospital where he later died as a result of the accident.

The accused was of arraigned on a one-count charge of causing death by dangerous driving, contrary to Section 23 of Road Traffic Law (RTL).

The prosecutor, Inspector Jimoh Kareem objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him at the prison custody, Ilorin.

Chief Magistrate Nurudeen A. Adeyanju, who tried the matter admitted the accused to bail at the sum of N100,000 and a surety in like and adjourned the case till May 28, 2012 for further mention.
