Offa banks to reopen Feb 3

Date: 2014-01-31

The Kwara Bankers Forum, Offa Branch, says all commercial banks in Offa, Kwara, will reopen for business on Monday, Feb. 3.

The Branch Controller of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Monday Olotewo, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria in Ilorin on Friday.

NAN recalled that banks in Offa were shut on Dec. 19, 2013, when armed robbers stormed some banks in the town killing a number of people.

Besides, the robbers also raided a divisional police station in the town.

Consequently, the frequent robberies on banks in the state forced banks in Ilorin to shut doors to customers by 2pm from 4pm.

Olotewo told NAN that the forum also agreed to lift restriction on banking hours in Ilorin.

He said that the banks in Offa were being reopened because the community had shown commitment to collaborate with security agents to check the menace.

He said that the state government also promised to build more police posts in the area.

Meanwhile, Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed, has commended the forum for restoring normal banking operations in Ilorin and Offa.

Ahmed gave the commendation in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Dr Muhideen Akorede, on Thursday in Ilorin.
