Kwara APC can't recall me - Senator Ajibola

Date: 2014-01-29

A senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District, Simeon Ajibola, has laughed at plans of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in his state to recall him from the Senate.

Mr. Ajibola, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in a telephone interview on Tuesday, said the APC had no moral or legal right to commence the process of his recall.

Members of the APC in Kwara South Senatorial District of Kwara on January 16 said the party had commenced the process of recalling the senator.

The APC in a statement by Yemi Afolayan said Mr. Ajibola was being recalled for poor representation of the district.

Mr. Ajibola said that many people were ignorant of the process of recall as enshrined in the Electoral Act, pointing out that he was duly elected into the senate on the platform of PDP in 2011 and not under APC.

"If I should be recalled at all, it is the PDP under which I got to the senate that can commence such a move," he said.

He noted that APC was not even in existence when he was elected as a senator to represent Kwara South. He also pointed out that only the people of his constituency could recall him, adding that they had not done so.

Mr. Ajibola alleged that those behind the purported recall process were the disgruntled members of PDP who were now in APC. He stated that as a senator, he had the right to decide what party to belong to and had resolved to remain in PDP.
