Impunity forced us out of PDP - Rep Rafiu Ibrahim
Rep Rafiu Ibrahim (APC, Kwara) has explained that the seemingly unending “reign of impunity” in the Bamanga Tukur led-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) forced some members of the House of Representatives to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ibrahim, who represents Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency, is among the 37 members of the House of Representatives who formerly renounced their membership of the PDP recently.
The lawmaker spoke to newsmen in Omupo, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state shortly after hosting the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in his constituency for a special prayer for peace and stability of Nigeria.
He accused Tukur of running the PDP as his personal estate thereby prompting the August 31 walkout staged by the Kawu Baraje-led new PDP. He debunked insinuation that their defection was driven by inordinate ambition.
He said “it is normal for people to insinuate, but I don’t know how they will want to describe the alleged inordinate ambition, but you can see what is happening within the PDP. And you can see how long since the beginning of this administration that key leaders of the party, stakeholders, governors and opinion leaders have been shouting about the impunity in handling the party.
“Nobody is against the government of President Goodluck Jonathan, but the PDP is our party, the structures and the way we run the party. A group of people led by Dr. Bamanga Tukur decided to run the party like their personal business and there was so much noise that climaxed in the walkout in the last special convention of August 31. That was a signal,” he said.
