Sultan To Leaders: Treat All Nigerians Equally.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, yesterday enjoined Nigerians to tolerate one another regardless of their religion or ethnic background.
He also urged Nigerian leaders to treat all citizens equally regardless of their political affiliation, stressing that it is only through equity in the polity that the country could develop.
Also, Kwara State governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has urged religious leaders in the country to shun partisan politics and preach sermons that will sustain good governance.
The Sultan and Governor Ahmed spoke in Ilorin, Kwara State at the opening ceremony of the second National Conference of Nasrul lahi-l Fatih Society of Nigeria (NASFAT).
The Sultan attributed various challenges facing Nigeria to lack of love and unity among the people and urged Nigerians to love one another.
In his remarks, Governor Ahmed, who described religious leaders as significant to the peaceful co-existence of the nation, urged them not to play politics with their preaching.
According to him, the egalitarian society can be achieved if more preaching are centred on good governance and accountability.
“Religious Leaders should shun partisan politics and concentrate their sermons on good governance and good ideals,” Ahmed said.
