Kwara IGR hits N800m monthly
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin that the state was on course to meet N1 billion projected for 2012 fiscal period.
''The state government has been collecting an average of N800 million per month since the beginning of the year.''
Banu said the government was able to achieve the feat because it had succeeded in blocking some loopholes, through which revenues were previously lost.
He said government would resist any attempt by anybody or organisation to evade tax in the state.
Banu urged the revenue officials to ensure strict adherence to all rules and regulations on taxes.
The Commissioner said it was compulsory for people to pay taxes, to enable the government to meet its obligation of providing necessary infrastructure to citizens.
According to him, the state cannot afford to waste resources untapped because it occupied number 33 on the federal allocation table.
Banu said in spite of the low income from the federal allocation, Kwara government was still able to carry out developmental projects through its IGR.
He said that the state government had resolved to be prudent with its resources.
The Commissioner enjoined staff of the Board of Internal Revenue and the Ministry of Finance to keep up the good work, so that its N1 billion target per month would be met. (NAN)
