Police most disciplined organisation in Nigeria-Kwara CP

Date: 2012-04-12

The newly-deployed Police Commissioner in Kwara State, Mr. Chinwuike Asadu, has said that the organisation is the most disciplined in the country. Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin, the state capital yesterday, Asadu said it was only the police that voluntarily punish reported cases of corruption against their personnel. He urged the public "to be bold enough to come forward with any corruption allegation against policemen," promising that such reports would be addressed with dispatch.

Also commenting on the continued refusal of hospitals to treat people with gunshot wounds, he explained that the position of the police was that such persons should first be attended to before a report is lodged at the nearest police station.

While counseling the public on the need to be security-conscious, the police chief observed that it was important for the public to know that "the job of confronting the present security challenge in the country is the business of everyone."

His further stated: "Security is an all-embracing one. The media occupy a vital role in the security of the country. Through the media, the generality of the people would be adequately carried along and the goal of security would be achieved.

"The police alone cannot do it. The media and the general public should be conscious of the security around them at all times and report presence of strange persons immediately to security agents. The media, in particular, are enjoined to keep the public informed on a regular basis."
