Allow retired teachers to oversee schools - Funsho Ameen
Making the appeal at the send-forth ceremony of a head teacher at Adeta LGEA school, the retired Director of Planning and Research in Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Funsho Ameen, described the role of retired civil servants in the educational development as important to the society.
Dr Ameen said that retired teachers were trained to take part in formulation and implementation of policies by their nature, adding that they are calm, cool headed and of proven integrity.
He, however, said that very few of them were recalled to participate in government policy formulation and its implementation after their retirement.
Dr Ameen who was a guest lecturer at the occasion, also said that some of the retired teachers were idle after retirement, urging the government to make use of them to avoid "being rotten away," stressing that "education system needs experience."
He also said that Britain has been handing over their schools to well researched and tested retired teachers or professors in the past 10 years.
Also speaking, the Head Teacher of the 'A' arm of the school, Mallam Sidiq Jimoh Yinusa, thanked God for giving the celebrant the opportunity to serve for the length of time he did.
He commended the efforts of the retiree in the moral and academic training of many children, saying the training had made them good citizens of Nigeria.
In his remarks, the celebrant, Alhaji Ibrahim Agboobamu, expressed his profound gratitude to the Adewole Progressive Association that gave the school some materials and Ilorin West Local Government Area for the control of erosion in the school.
He also commended the efforts of the former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Saka Isau (SAN), for donating computer set to the school, Mr Shehu Abdulahi Magaji, for donating benches and desks and appreciated the school for winning laurels in the competition organised by Bournvita in 2009.
