Medical practitioners urged to use social media for improved healthcare delivery

Date: 2016-11-22

Medical practitioners in Nigeria have been called upon to take full advantage of social media to advance effective health care delivery services in the country.

The Chief Executive Officer of Lifeount International Hospital, Tanke area Ilorin, Dr Ademola Adeyeye made the call in Ilorin on Wednesday at the official launching of 'AJIPE HEALTH and WELLBEING' held at Captain cook mini hall, Ilorin.

Adeyeye who was the guest speaker on the occasion said it is high time for all medical practitioners including all health personnel to develop positive attitude towards consistent use of social media as a platform to attend to their clients as it will save time and prevent unnecessary delay.

Adeyeye who spoke on the topic "The Electronic Media as a tool for Healthcare" encouraged medical practitioners to embrace the idea of keeping records of his or her clients through provision of database and as well open various online accounts such as twitter, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp among others online platforms.

These, according to him, would afford them the opportunity to be responsive to the dynamic environment and to also provide health care service from a single source to a large number of patients.

In his address, the Chairman of AJIPE HEALTH and WELLBEING, Mr Shehu Temitope Odurinde said the brain behind the establishment of AJIPE HEALTH was to create a connectivity between the practitioners and the patients through effective use of electronic media as a platform.

Odunride who is a Social Psychologist said the project will also serve as a bridge between pharmacists and doctors as well as other health personnel in order to close the existing gaps as far as providers/ patients relation is concerned.

He said the scheme would bridge the gap between medical establishment and the public using social media as a platform.

Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of AJIPE HEALTH and WELLBEING, Dr Faisol Oladosu said that the establishment of the scheme was borne out of the need to create a new paradigm shift in providing effective health care delivery services to the public using social media as an effective driving force.

Oladosu pledged that the AJIPE HEALTH and WELLBEING would leave no stone unturned to live up to its mandate and cardinal objectives so as to justify the purpose for which the scheme was established.

The event was attended by selected eminent personalities in the country and beyond and members of various professions such as medical practitioners, journalists, pharmacists, lawyers and several others.
