OPINION: Let Bukola Saraki Sue Sahara Reporters. By Ibrahim Opeyemi Bada

Date: 2015-08-09

When Sahara Reporters was criticizing President Jonathan and his Party (PDP) my people were jubilating and seeing Sahara Reporters as the best among the rest of the media. I wonder why the same medium is now regarded as the worst ever.

My people, enough of this subjective and highly biased judgement. Is everyone not supposed to be equal before the law? Rather than see issues and judge them as they are, my people will always try to discredit the messenger whenever it seems the message is not in their favour with the hope of shifting focus from those real issues. Let's face it, most of us have our minds and mentality corrupted by the doctrine of 'it is our son'.

As far as I'm concern, I care less whose dubious and illegal activity is exposed by any media outfit provided same is done with concrete evidence and undeniable fact. Last time I checked, law of libel/defamation is never abrogated nor altered from our Laws, let him seek justice he who feels being libelled.

Have you ever asked yourself why most of our so-called leaders never made and will never make any attempt to sue those media houses just as Abike Dabiri did. The answer is simple; your tin-gods know more than you do. It still unfathomable why my people were clamouring for change yesterday only for them to be blocking the road to the change avenue today. Ok, the change you want is a selective one. Where only you leader's opponents would be exposed while saying anything negative about you leader is a no-go-area no matter how strong evidence proved against him. Where is justice.

That reminds me of a friend when we were debating over the recent occurrences in the National Assembly he was trying to convince me then that the matter was the House issue on which no political party should intervene, the notion I accepted not. Later on when Senator Akpabio was nominated as minority leader contrary to the Rules of the House which stipulate that such post should be occupied by a senior ranking member. Senator Kabir Marafa tried to call his colleagues to order but their response was that it's PDP affair so Senator Marafa should keep quite. I now called my friend to hear what else he would like to say again. Alas! To my greatest surprise this same guy with conscience said: 'well if they said it's PDP affair so be it'.

Don't misconstrue my message I don't say Sahara reporters and other media channels are always right or never misjudge issues what I'm saying is that we should try to be objective and never allow our sense of reasoning to be blinded by sentiments.

Together we will make Nigeria great again.
