Kwara PDP urges Jonathan to declare for 2015.

Date: 2014-02-01

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara South yesterday called on President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately declare his interest to contest the 2015 presidential election.

Addressing a press conference at Iloffa in Irepodun Local Government Area of the state, the party equally passed a vote of confidence on Senator Simeon Ajibola representing the district in the Senate.

It would be recalled that Senator Ajibola refused to dump the PDP like other senators in the state as well as Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Some APC stakeholders in the senatorial district had last week said the people of Kwara South have commenced the process of recalling the Senator for alleged non-performance.

However, Ajibola’s predecessor, Senator Sulaiman Ajadi who addressed the press in presence of key Kwara South PDP stakeholders, declared that the senatorial district has “absolute confidence” in the Senator,  describing threat to recall him as the “highest joke of the year by political novices”.

Meanwhile, all the 16 council chairmen elected on the platform of the PDP, in Kwara State yesterday formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The chairmen who were elected on   August 31, 2013 council poll, defected with their council executives comprising vice chairmen, 80 supervisory councillors and 193 elected councillors.

The council chairmen who jointly defected under the aegis of Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Kwara State chapter, announced their decision to dump the PDP at a press conference held yesterday.

ALGON Protem Chairman, Barrister Abdullateef Okandeji said the rationale for their defection;  while the council chairmen spoke one after the other along the same line.
