An Area Court in Ilorin on Monday dissolved the three-year-old marriage between one Memunat Ahmed and her husband, Shehu, due to irreconcilable differences.

Memunat, 29, who resides in the Edun area of Ilorin, prayed the court to dissolve the marriage, saying her husband had been insincere in the relationship.

The judge, Mr Yusuf Abdulkareem, who dissolved the marriage, issued a certificate of divorce to the plaintiff.

Memunat, who had told the court that her husband was a liar, added that “he is fond of making empty promises he cannot fulfill.”

“Everybody in my neighbourhood sees my husband as a liar and I am ashamed of him,” she said.

Memunat told the court that their marriage was contracted in February 2011 and had not produced a child.

Ahmed, who did object to the prayer of Memunat, denied the allegation that he was insincere in the relationship.

“She is free to go anywhere she wants to. There is no child in the marriage,” he said.
