The Kwara State Government is to host National Council on Works, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr. Abubakar Amuda Kannike has disclosed.
Kannike who disclosed this yesterday while inaugurating the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) at the ministry's conference room, said the forum will hold between 15th and 20th September, 2013.
The forum, according to him, is to bring together all relevant stakeholders on the road sector with a view to finding solutions to various challenges facing the sector.
Speaking through the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Amuda Alabi who is also Chairman of (LOC), the commissioner mentioned members of the National Assembly, top hierarchy officers from the Federal Ministry of Works, all the States' Commissioners of Works and their Permanent Secretaries, Chief Executive Officers of parastatals under Federal and State Ministries of Works as well as the chief executive officers of construction companies as among the participants.
He noted that the forum will expose participants to the massive achievements of the present administration particularly in road construction and other developmental areas.
He added that it would also afford them opportunity to witness the peaceful nature of the state and the hospitality of the people.
"It will equally afford opportunity to showcase the rich culture of the people and allow distinguished participants to exchange ideas among themselves on how to move the nation forward particularly in the road sector", he said.
He said the constitution of the committee is to ensure smooth execution of the programme in order to fine-tune and clear all green areas that will constitute serious threat against the successful conduct of the programme.
While urging the committee to be up and doing to ensure successful execution of the programme, the commissioner noted that members of the committee were carefully selected based on their merit, track record and relevance, adding that a sub-committee had also been constituted with terms of reference and responsibilities.
"The meeting is taking place at the right time when efforts are being made to get adequate Federal Government attention on the rehabilitation of federal roads in the state and necessary re-imbursement on the federal roads intervention by the state government.
"We wish to take this opportunity to implore all Kwarans particularly, hoteliers, transport unions and eateries to extend our traditional hospitality to all the participants", he explained.
