KWSG Sinks 300 Boreholes in Two Years
The Kwara state government has disclosed that it has sunk over 300 boreholes and rehabilitated 13 waterworks across the state in the last two years, to ensure access to water supply for the people of the state.
It added that an additional 189 communities now enjoy regular electricity supply under its rural and urban electrification programme.
The state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, disclosed this in Ilorin at the recent 2013 New Partnership for Africa Development (NEPAD), Kwara State Business and Investment Development Interactive session.
The governor also said over 800 kilometres of rural, urban and federal roads have been rehabilitated by his government to enhance infrastructural development.
He stated that primary and secondary healthcare institutions as well as five General hospitals have either been rehabilitated or are currently at various stages of completion.
On employment generation, Ahmed said over 2,000 youths were employed through the Kwara State Bridge Empowerment Scheme; 28,000 small business owners benefited from a N250 million loan facility while another N100 million facility is earmarked for Micro, Small, Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) this year.
Other achievements of his administration, he said, include the rehabilitation of 400 classrooms, provision of free education up to post primary level and reduction of tuition fees in the State owned University at Malete.
The governor said in the coming months, the state government would implement landmark projects to accelerate economic growth and stimulate rapid job creation, while an Independent Power Project (IPP) to provide constant electricity across the state to improve the welfare of the people will be established.
The chairman of the occasion, Mr. Lanre Sagaya, said NEPAD seeks to promote African integration by focusing on issues such as creating enabling environment for economic growth across the continent.
