Kwara DPP candidate flays attack on Obasanjo's aide's son
The governorship candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party(DPP) in Kwara State, Chief Gbenga Olawepo, yesterday condemned the weekend’s attack on the residence of the Chief of Staff to the President, Gen. Mohammed Abdulahi in Ilorin, Kwara State.
His son, Shittu, was shot and wounded in the attack which killed a security detail of the general.
In a statement signed by Chief Olawepo, he said: "The attack further highlights the state of insecurity in the state occasioned by the activities of sponsored gangs that were particularly active during the last elections.
"On behalf of my family, I commiserate with the Chief of Staff on the death of his security detail and wish Shittu quick recovery.
"I also seize this opportunity to call on the Federal Government to urgently commission an investigation into all other early reported violent crimes and political killings in the state to bring the perpetrators to justice," he added.
The development has led to a scurry of security activities across the state, with the police launching a massive manhunt into the incident.
The suspected robbers were said to have invaded the house at about 7.30 pm. On Saturday. They shot Shittu and State Security Service (SSS) officer whose name could not be ascertained by press time.
It was not clear whether the shooting was due to an attempt by the duo to resist the robbers or not.
