Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, yesterday unveiled the "Kwara State Entrepreneurship Model", designed to boost economic development in the state.

Addressing the press yesterday at the Government House, the state commissioner for Commerce and Cooperatives, Alhaji Mohammed Raji ,said the model is designed by the government to train people, cluster them into cooperative societies and support  them financially.

Raji explained that the model is in line with the state government policy thrust which is specifically targeted towards promotion of Mini-small and Medium enterprises as a platform for economic development in the state.

According to the commissioner, the governor also sees cooperative societies as a means of alleviating poverty in the state.

"The Kwara State government in his wisdom in the last two years has identified a lot of skill acquisition centers that are recognized by the Kwara State Government and given them curriculum which standardizes their operations in the state".

"Those that graduated from similar schools are now clustered together into a cooperative societies having registered with the Ministry of Commerce and Cooperatives and get support from anywhere especially the Kwara State Government".

"Along the line, there is another trench which is international vocation center at Ajase-Ipo. In the same way, those that graduate from that center will be formed into cluster and be in cooperative society and be supported financially from government so that they will be self reliant," the commissioner said.

Also in his address at the briefing, the special assistant to Governor on Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurship, Dr. Lukman Adams said the idea of clustering people into cooperative societies is to ensure that the less privileged ones in the societies are catered for.
