Federal Information Centre, Ilorin anchors campaigns on national security.

Date: 2013-05-31

The Federal Information Centre, Ilorin has extended its sensitization campaign  on national security to the Hausa Community at Kulende Sango, along old Jebba Road in Ilorin. The campaign which was handled by Information Officers from the Centre challenged the people to be alive and alert to the security situations in their environments.

The Officers admonished them to discard the idea that security of lives and property of Nigerian citizens was solely the responsibility of the law enforcement agencies.  The people were called upon to cooperate with the agencies by giving them needful and relevant information and tips on  persons and groups of people suspected to be threats to the security of their respective locations.

In the Hausa Community of Kulende-Sango, youths were called upon to resist vehemently, anybody seeking to use them to destroy lives and properties in their residential areas or host community and to always embrace peaceful dialogue in addressing issues of concerns to them.

The council of elders led by Isa Imam was urged to always call their followers to order and pass messages of peace and harmony across to the people of their community as there could not be any meaningful development where chaos and disorderliness prevail.

While responding on behalf of the Seriki Hausawa Community in Kulende-Sango, Zaki Hazzan, a representative of the Hausa Community in the government of Kwara State, commended the Federal Government's efforts at addressing the security challenges of the country and assured them of continued cooperation and support from the community to government policies and programmes.

Explaining reasons for people's warm reception of the enlightenment campaign, Zaki Hazzan said that people are tired of sharing opinions and releasing relevant information to the government without meaningful implementation or results.  He urged the Federal Government to listen and reason with the people over whom they rule.

While speaking on behalf of the Hausa youths, Abdullahi Soliu expressed loss of confidence in the Nigerian security agencies, noting that it has taken too long to check the inhuman acts perpetrated by the Boko Haram sect.  He expressed near regrets for being a Nigerian citizen, owing to the increasing tempo of insecurity and reckless destruction of the lives and property of innocent citizens without any hope for a stop.

In his reaction, a youth in the area, Ahmed Sodiq opined that government would only win the heart and support of the youths in its policies and programmes, if the essentials of life were provided.  He said, youths would continue to be available as vagabonds and thugs as long as they were not meaningfully engaged through gainful employment and needed empowerment.

Also speaking, Zainab Mohammed, an Hausa petty-trader condemned government's empowerment programmes as she described them as partisan and not tailored towards those that merit them.  She assured continued prayer for the leadership of the country and pledged to uphold the peace and harmony of their host community.
