KWSG assures workers on welfare
The Kwara State Government has again reiterated its commitments towards workers' welfare in the state.
The Special Adviser on Labour Matters to the Kwara State Governor, Comrade Bisi Fakayode disclosed this during the State Delegate Conference/Elections and the one year anniversary ceremony of National Museum, Ilorin with the theme: Unionism And Public Service organised by the Radio, Television, Theatres and Arts Workers union of Nigeria, RATTAWU, Kwara State Council, Ilorin recently.
Comrade Fakayode who was represented on the occasion by his press secretary, Mr. Y.K. Aliagan, said the present administration under the leadership of Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed, attached great value to civil servants' welfare through the regular promotion of workers and the provision of incentives such as car loan, housing loan etc.
He however charged union leaders to be up and doing and also allow principle of internal democracy to prevail instead of primitive idea of holding on to their elevated seats.
In his presentation, titled Unionism and Public Service , the State Chairman of NLC, Comrade Faruq Akanbi opined that the relationship between the employee representatives and employer should not be mutual suspicion but rather cordial and encouraging in order to achieve effective and efficient results.
Comrade Akanbi lauded the State Governor for taking workers' welfare a priority and enjoined the unions in the state to reciprocate government gesture on their welfarism.
Earlier, the National Vice Chairman, North Central Zone, Comrade Mukthar J. Ahmed commended the State Government for creating conducive atmosphere for unions to operate in the state. He however, appealed to the State Government to make sure that the NUJ/RATTAWU wages/salaries is in conformity with their colleagues at Federal level.
In his goodwill message, the State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Abdulkareem Abiodun also praised the RATTAWU for conducting free and fair election. He charged the new executives to repose the confidence of the members that voted them by taking their welfare seriously.
Among the new executives that will pilot the affairs of the union for the next two years include: Comrade Gesua Yekini as Chairman, Comrade Olufemi Oki as the Vice Chairman, Dahood Kolawole as Secretary, Adeboye Kayode as Tresurer, Bashir Alabi as Financial Secretary, Ogunwusi Lawrence as PRO and Al-Hassan Abubakar as the Auditor.
