Kwara establishes agro-processing complex
In a bid to transform Kwara State into the nation’s number one investment destination in agriculture, the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the aMosila Group Limited for the establishment of a 600 tons agro processing complex in Share, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state. The complex, it was gathered, is to take advantage of the state’s huge potential in cassava farming by adding value to cassava derivatives.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed said the complex will change the status of the country as the largest producer of cassava in the world without added value.
"Our purpose is to move agriculture from farms to the industries through well coordinated commercial and industry-based agricultural practices", he said.
He added that the complex will be a big boost for the realization of the values of the cassava reformation agenda of the state and Federal Government.
According to Governor Ahmed, the choice of Kwara State for the project was apt as the state produces 40 tones of cassava per hectare, which would be ready made raw material for the complex.
Chairman of Mosilo Group Limited, Mr. Moses Siasia, who signed on behalf of the company, said the agro-processing complex which would be on a 100 hectares would be built in three phases.
He said an 8 month period has been earmarked for the completion of the first phase of the project at the cost of$ 150 million.
