Cleric Advises Journalists on Balance Reporting
Media practitioners have been warned against being used by politicians to achieve selfish ends.
At a special service to commemorate the 2013 Press Week of the Kwara State council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Deputy Chief Imam of Al-Ial Jumat Mosque, GRA, Ilorin, Ustaz Adams Abdulrasaq, described journalism as a profession of trust, saying that Allah always rewards anyone engaged in the spreading of knowledge.
Adams advised journalists to always strive to balance their reports and avoid sensationalism, adding that Allah curses people who give out fake information.
While urging the NUJ members to be pious in the practice of their profession, the cleric said “wrong information causes insecurity and crises in the society. So, journalists need to be sure of whatever information they are giving out to the public.”
A former Controller, Production Service of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Alhaji Abdulsalami Ayinla, led a prayer for the progress of the union.
