Sachet Water Producers in Kwara Call Off Strike

Date: 2013-04-30

After four days of strike, producers of sachet water popularly called pure water in Kwara State yesterday resumed supply of the commodity which had become scarce in the state, following the strike.

Our correspondent however reports that despite the strike which was said to have been sparked by residents’ agitation for the reversal of the price of sachet water from N10 to N5, the price remains the same.

A sachet of the product was hitherto sold for N5 in the state but the price was increased last year.

The producers of sachet water said the strike became inevitable due to series of attacks on their vehicles, saying several complaints made to the law enforcement agencies could not stop the attacks.

Chairman of Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria, Kwara State chapter, Mr. Adewunmi Adeleke, told our correspondent that the strike was called off following government’s intervention.

“We don’t even know the essence of the strike because we thought the price would be brought back to N60 per bag or N5 per sachet as the case may be but it still remains the same”, said a sachet water retailer.
