An Ilorin Magistrate Court has remanded a man, Abdullahi Anaruwa of Ali Kaikai Camp, via Bode-Saadu, Kwara State, who allegedly conspired with his brother, Abdullahi Bature Sheu (now at large) and attempted to kill a man for refusing to give the hand of his daughter in marriage to them.
The accused had on March 25 trespassed into the residence of the man, Alhaji Usman Hussein at Adera Fulani Camp, via Bode-Saadu, while he was sleeping and attacked him.
They matcheted him on the head, arm, leg and robbed him of the sum of N50, 000 as a result of which he was left unconscious in the pool of his blood.
The accused, on sighting the neighbours who came to rescue the victim, having heard the cry of a little boy who was sleeping in the same room allegedly took to their heels and escaped to an unknown destination.
However, the victim was rushed to Goshen Boka Kehinde Clinic and Maternity, Jebba, Kwara State, where he is still receiving treatment.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter, the efforts of police from Bode-Saadu led to the arrest of Anaruwa (accused), while Sheu is still at large.
The FIR stated that investigation conducted at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Police Headquarters, Ilorin, revealed that the attack on the victim was as a result of his refusal to give the hand of his daughter, Hawau in marriage to Sheu, who is now at large.
The accused was arraigned on a five-count charge of criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, causing grievous hurt, attempted culpable homicide and armed robbery.
The offences contradict Sections 97, 342, 251, 229 of Penal Code and 19(2) of Armed Robbery Act Cap R11, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The prosecutor, Inspector Aina Bukola objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison custody, Ilorin, pending the outcome of the police investigation.
The Judge, Magistrate Joel O. Michael upheld the submission of the prosecutor and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin.
He adjourned the case to April 27 for further mention.
