Opinion - Dominion: Goodbye Kwara ACN... Welcome Kwara Progressives

Date: 2013-04-07

By Saheed Oyeyemi

In any community dominated by 'progressives', you really have to do much more to make a noticeable difference. ACN and its companions in 'minority', perhaps would have been recognized by the masses in Kwara if only they were competing with PDP on progressive ground rather than alleging it is their emblem. As long as ACN and other opposition parties continue to fail in taking progressive steps in Kwara like PDP does, and also CPC even though at a low level,  they will continue to suffer set back. In fact, critically examining the lastest defection of hundreds of ACN members into Kwara PDP, it's not difficult to conclude the party is fighting its last battle in Kwara helplessly. Just like a snake whose  backbone has been broken, eventhough it struggles with its life, it won't just survive it.

Doing a sincere assessment of the place of opposition parties in Kwara, CPC appears to be making some progressive moves eventhough its struggling; at grassroot level in some communities in Kwara, their impact is lightly felt. This is quite different from the ephimeral and unsonorous noise made by ACN-so called opposition leading party which is too low-a-blow for an advanced state like Kwara, as it continued to exercise a high level of 'directionlessness' which makes the party stagnant and uncoordinated. Then I asked myself, if Kwara ACN, whose members might not be more than one of the smallest PDP ward in Kwara is disorganized, how will a disorganized party manage a whole state? Also, if CPC which is a minority party is making productive moves, can't ACN make such effort? Reasoning ability of Kwarans has gone beyond continuous weak allegations developed by ACN to get attention, an interrupted PDP leadership in the state for almost a decade is evidently as a result of progress put in place by the party.

Earlier, after I read Raheem's article which he titled, "Kwara minnows swallowed by PDP", I felt it was one of those articles anyone will just write, but reading about the lastest conflicting trend within Kwara ACN-Belgore and his flock shows high level of disorganization and of course it's a bad sign for our dear state. After arguing against Raheem's article, it's not difficult to agree with him now that ACN has messed up again. Democracy gives us the opportunity to choose competent leaders, such competencies are not displayed after getting into power, they are seen from party activities; assessing the crisis rocking the weakened ACN in Kwara, the party is not competent to rule Kwara. The average effort made by them were incoherent and untimely; it is unfortunate that a so-called advanced ACN will promise to digg boreholes during election to secure votes, then i asked myself, what were the people drinking before this period? Also distribution of exercise books, were the pupils writing on their palms before election? Common more progressive ideas should be put in place to compete with 'progressives'. However, one will not overlook the little contribution of CPC at communal ground, but they are made rootless by the main opposition, ACN, who has refuse to do nothing.

In developed world, opposition parties are objective watchdogs who work to raise alarm on bad policies and masses unfriendly reforms by the ruling party; also, opposition parties are meant to contribute to development, not through baseless criticism, but a collaborative effort with government- if truly ACN wishes to serve the people which all parties claim, collaborating will not be a problem. Growth is integral, else one will be on same spot; it appears to me ACN remains behind even after a decade and four years of democratic rule, people are tired of accusations that are baseless, it does nothing but regress the stand of the party, ACN can also make the news with headlines such as "Kwara ACN gives scholarhship to 50 students in Asa", "Kwara ACN empowers 100 Kwarans" among others, M.K.O Abiola of blessed memory, never waited till election before practicalizing what he has in mind for the masses, he dedicated his entire life, doing what he wants when he gets to power, people are convinced with results and not chorus chants. For now, goodbye Kwara ACN...welcome Progressives!
