Constituency Project is an Aberration - Atunwa

Date: 2013-04-07

Speaker, Kwara state House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Abdulrazak Atunwa, has described execution of constituency project by members of state and National Assemblies as an aberration and unconstitutional.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin at the weekend, the Speaker said legislators could only compel the executive to do such constituency projects by making adequate representation and resolution.

Kwara Speaker, who said there was nothing in the constitution that talked about constituency projects, added that legislators were supposed to make laws, make adequate representations on the needs of people and carry out oversight functions.

He also said that the National Assembly had realised that the situation ought not to be the practice, hence measures being taken by the NASS to end that incumberance in the next two years.
