It makes no sense to leave PDP - Ahmed

Date: 2013-04-03

Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed says there’s no iota of truth in the reports that he was dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying it would be a senseless decision to defect from the party to another party.

He said PDP is the only party in Nigeria with a national outlook and as such it would make no sense to leave a national party for a regional party.

Ahmed stated this yesterday during his monthly media chat, saying rather than leave the party, he would continue to strengthen it as the ruling party in the state.

The governor similarly dismissed with a wave of hand the ongoing opposition merger in the state to wrest power from the ruling PDP, noting that he was not aware of any coalition in the state.

“So as it is today, PDP is the only national party. Other parties are regional parties and by the grace of God almighty, it is the ruling party in Kwara state. So, there is every indication why I should continue to remain in PDP and I would continue to remain in PDP, I will continue to strengthen PDP because it is the only sure party that has been able to carry its differences to the focal points.

“Don’t forget other parties also have differences and those differences are what have brought them to the current regional level they are. Don’t forget they all started as national parties but they got shrunken to regional level because they could not manage their differences. PDP has been able to manage its differences.”
