The Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Doctor Lawal Olohungbebe has stressed the importance of support from old students and other stakeholders in complementing government efforts in shaping the education standards in the state ?

Doctor Olohungbebe made the remark at the fortieth reunion anniversary of the 1986 set of GSS Ilorin, where he acknowledged the association's efforts, particularly in providing infrastructure and other facilities for the alma mater.

Addressing concerns about funding for education, the Commissioner said Kwara State has about three thousand public schools, describing the figure as the highest number of public schools in the North-Central geopolitical zone. ?

?He explained that despite funding challenges, the present administration had continued to expand its interventions in the education sector and commended the alumni for their continued contribution to the development of their Alma mater. ? ?

In his welcome address, President of the 1986 set and General Manager of Radio Kwara, Alhaji Kayode Aremu, called on old students to contribute their time, resources, ideas and expertise towards strengthening their alma mater.

Alhaji Aremu said the 1986 set had contributed to the development of the school through the provision of a solar-powered automated borehole with two overhead tanks, among other projects.

He also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his efforts to improve the education sector in the state, noting that the sector had recorded significant improvements since the commencement of his administration. ?

?Alhaji Aremu then, called for more efforts towards ensuring the safety and security of students in schools.

?He prayed for the repose of the souls of deceased members of the set, asking Allah to grant them Aljana Firdaus.

Also speaking, the National President of GSS Ilorin, Olasheni Ibiwoye (SAN), represented by Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim, urged members of the old students' association to protect the heritage of the school and work towards restoring its glory.

?He appealed to the State Dovernment to strengthen academic staffing, sustain infrastructure upgrades and promote institutional discipline in the school.
