Kwara United Record First Win of Season with 3-0 Victory over Katsina United
Kwara United on Sunday recorded their first victory of the season, defeating Katsina United 3-0 at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl of the George Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin, in a Matchday 3 fixture of the Euromatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The Harmony Boys started the encounter on a shaky note, with Emmanuel Ekpeyong and Thomas Omokhafe missing early opportunities that could have given the hosts an early lead.
Coach Ashifat Sulyman subsequently switched Gidado Toyeeb and Philip Ozor's positions to create more fluidity in the midfield and attack, and the tactical adjustment soon paid off.
Kwara United took the lead in the 32nd minute when Aliyu Ferinyaro made an overlapping run from the back before sending a cross into the Katsina United box. The ball took a deflection off the visitors' goalkeeper and ended up in the net to give the Harmony Boys a 1-0 advantage.
Kwara United went into the break with the lead, and Coach Sulyman made three changes at the start of the second half, introducing Adeshina Gata, Tosin Olawale and Abdulsalam Abdulsalam for Thomas Omokhafe, Emmanuel Ekpeyong and Sanni Mohammed.
Substitute Tosin Olawale doubled Kwara United's advantage in the 55th minute with a close-range finish before Adeshina Gata made it 3 in the 65th minute with another composed finish from close range to seal a convincing 3-0 victory.
The result gave Kwara United their first win of the season and maximum points from the encounter.
Ferinyaro Ali was outstanding throughout the match, contributing a goal involvement and an assist to earn the Cyteck Man of the Match award. He dedicated the individual recognition to his teammates, praising the collective effort of the squad.
Speaking after the match, Kwara United head coach Ashifat Sulyman admitted that his players were wasteful in the first half but praised their improved finishing after the interval.
