Kwara Polytechnic Inaugurates Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit

Date: 2026-09-11

The management of Kwara State Polytechnic Thursday inaugurated members of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the institution.

The inauguration ceremony was conducted by officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Speaking at the event, the rector, Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, assured the ICPC delegation of the management's full cooperation in efforts to promote a corruption-free institution.

He noted that lack of discipline remains one of the major challenges undermining the nation's development, and stressed that the polytechnic was determined to work closely with the ACTU and other relevant agencies to tackle corruption and other unethical practices within the system.

The rector further stated that the newly inaugurated ACTU members were carefully nominated from both academic and non-academic staff to ensure broad representation and effective coverage across the institution.

He expressed confidence that the composition of the unit would enable it to promote awareness, accountability, and compliance with established rules and regulations within the Polytechnic community.

In his remarks, the team lead of the ICPC delegation, Elijah Akaa-Kohol, described corruption as a destructive force that blocks the path to collective success and progress.

He stated that corruption not only hinders societal advancement but also poses a threat to future prospects and national security.

Akaa-Kohol urged the new ACTU members to ensure that the polytechnic conducts its affairs in a more accountable and transparent manner, noting that significant damage has already been done to the corporate culture of the public service as a result of corrupt practices.

The newly inaugurated ACTU chairman, Umar S. Iman, called for collective commitment among members of the unit, management, and the entire polytechnic community, adding that the fight against corruption is a moral, institutional, and national obligation.
