Popo Giwa Building Collapse: Gov AbdulRazaq Visits Injured, Vows to Uphold Construction Safety Standards
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has expressed sadness over the collapse of a three-storey building in the Popo Giwa area of Ilorin, assuring injured victims of the state government's support and necessary medical care.
The governor, in a statement following the tragic incident, said he had visited the injured victims to wish them a safe and speedy recovery.
He said the state government was providing the victims with the necessary medical attention and support to ensure they remained stable and recovered promptly.
AbdulRazaq disclosed that a delegation of the state government, led by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, had earlier visited the scene to assess the situation and empathise with members of the affected community.
The governor commended first responders from the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the State Fire Service, Ilorin West Local Government authorities and community volunteers for their coordinated efforts during the rescue operation.
He said their response reflected the spirit of solidarity among the people of Kwara, particularly during moments of tragedy and grief.
AbdulRazaq also expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones in the incident, praying to Almighty Allah to comfort them and grant the departed eternal rest.
The governor described the tragedy as another reminder of the need for strict adherence to safety protocols and construction standards.
"Our administration is irrevocably committed to upholding standards always to keep our people safe," he said.
He appealed to residents and other stakeholders to cooperate with the government in ensuring compliance with construction and safety regulations across the state.
