Another Kwara Lawmaker Quits APC Amid 2027 Political Realignment

Date: 2026-08-28

Another member of the Kwara State House of Assembly has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), hours after his colleague representing Edu State Constituency, Saba Yisa Gideon, announced his departure from the party.

The latest resignation was announced by Hon. Olushola Odetundun, representing Irepodun Constituency, in a letter addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Ajasse Ward II, Irepodun Local Government Area.

The development brings to two the number of Kwara lawmakers reported to have resigned from the APC on Thursday, amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Odetundun said his decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders, supporters, associates and constituents across the state.

He added that his resignation was influenced by his assessment of recent political developments and his desire to realign his political journey with what he described as the interests of his constituents.

While acknowledging his years in the APC and the relationships and opportunities he gained during his membership, the lawmaker said public service must remain focused on principles, accountability and the welfare of the people.

"Public service must remain anchored on principles, accountability, and the total welfare of the people," he said.

Odetundun did not disclose the political platform he intends to join following his resignation.

He, however, assured his constituents that leaving the APC would not affect his commitment to effective representation and grassroots development.

"My commitment to effective representation, grassroots development, and ethical leadership remains unshaken as I embark on the next phase of my political journey," he said.

His resignation came shortly after Gideon announced his exit from the APC, citing concerns over internal democracy, fairness and inclusiveness within the party.

Gideon said his decision followed consultations with his constituents and key stakeholders.

The latest developments come as political activities and realignments intensify in Kwara ahead of the 2027 elections.
