Kwara Government Reaffirms Commitment to Tertiary Education Growth and Staff Welfare
The Supervising Commissioner for the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology in Kwara State met with the heads of all Kwara State-owned tertiary institutions last Thursday.
Discussions focused on critical issues affecting the sector, including accreditation, infrastructural development, campus security, staff welfare, subvention and comprehensive student audits.
The Commissioner assured the institutions of His Excellency's unwavering commitment to the continuous growth and development of tertiary education in Kwara State. The heads of institutions, in turn, expressed profound appreciation for His Excellency's recent interventions, particularly the approval of accreditation support for the Kwara State College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi, Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Ilorin, Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Oke Ode, and Kwara State Polytechnic.
The heads of institutions further commended His Excellency for the approval of the enhanced salary structure for both academic and non-academic staff of Kwara State-owned tertiary institutions, including the upward review of journal allowance. They also appreciated the ongoing infrastructural upgrades at the Kwara State College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi and other institutions, as well as the appointment of Deputy Provosts for the Colleges of Education in Ilorin and Oro.
A particularly memorable moment was reconnecting with his former teacher, Prof. Moshood Mahmood Jimba, now the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of Kwara State University.
As a teenager, the Commissioner had the privilege of sitting in his living room at night, where he patiently taught him how to construct sentences in both Arabic and English. Those lessons laid a strong foundation for his academic journey and instilled in him a lifelong appreciation for learning.
Meeting him again in such a professional setting rekindled many fond memories and reminded him that the impact of a good teacher extends far beyond the classroom. He remains deeply grateful for his mentorship and the enduring role he and other teachers have played in shaping his journey.
