Date: 2026-06-20

AbdulRasaq Abubakar Toyin University (AATU), Oke-Ogba, Ganmo, Kwara State, has recorded a major milestone following the approval of 15 additional academic programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC), significantly expanding the institution's academic portfolio ahead of the 2026/2027 academic session.

The newly approved programmes include LL.B. Common Law, LL.B. Common and Islamic Law, B.Sc. Nursing Science, B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Science, B.Sc. Chemistry, B.Sc. Medical Physics, B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry, B.Sc. Public Health, B.Sc. Political Science, and B.Sc. Public Administration.

Others are B.Sc. Artificial Intelligence, B.CHS. Community Health, B.Sc. Intelligence and Security Studies, B.Sc. Microbiology, and B.Sc. Mass Communication.

In a statement signed by the Director of Academic Planning of the NUC, Abubakar M. Girei, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, the Commission stated that it had considered and approved the establishment of the programmes in full-time mode with effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval followed a resource verification exercise conducted by a panel of NUC experts to assess the availability of the human and material resources required for the proposed undergraduate programmes.

Reacting to the development, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of AATU, Prof. Olugbenga Olatunji, expressed delight over the approval of all the proposed courses.

He commended the NUC for its confidence in the institution and assured that the university possesses world-class facilities necessary for delivering quality education and producing globally competitive graduates.

Olatunji also praised the Proprietor of the University, Alhaji AbdulRasaq Abubakar Toyin; the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. AbdulRasheed Na'allah; members of the Governing Council, Board of Trustees, staff, and other stakeholders for their contributions to the achievement.

The latest approval comes less than a year after the NUC, in August 2025, granted approval for 14 pioneer academic programmes for the university's take-off, including Cyber Security, Software Engineering, and Biotechnology.
