The Kwara State Police Command has arrested four suspected robbers and recovered a stolen motorcycle following a violent attack on two commuters along the Ali Weree Camp axis of Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The command disclosed that the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated operation carried out by police operatives in collaboration with personnel of the National Forest Security Service.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday in Ilorin.

According to her, the incident occurred on June 4, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m. when a group of armed men attacked two commuters who were returning from a market.

She explained that the assailants, armed with sticks and cutlasses, inflicted injuries on the victims before dispossessing them of their motorcycle and fleeing the scene.

"On June 4, 2026, at about 2000hrs, two commuters returning from a market were attacked by a group of armed men wielding sticks and cutlasses along the Ali Weree Camp axis of Ifelodun Local Government Area.

"The assailants inflicted injuries on the victims and forcefully dispossessed them of their motorcycle before fleeing the scene," she said.

Ejire-Adeyemi stated that upon receiving the report, police operatives immediately launched a coordinated operation with the National Forest Security Service, leading to the recovery of the stolen motorcycle and the arrest of four suspects.

The suspects were identified as Umaru Haruna, Habibu Kale, Kire Yelwa, and Iliyasu Gambo.

She added that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects acted in concert during the robbery operation.

Further investigations, according to the police spokesperson, uncovered the involvement of another suspect identified simply as Sumo, who is believed to be the leader of the gang and currently remains at large.

"Investigation further revealed that one Sumo, identified as the leader of the criminal gang and believed to be in possession of the group's weapons, remains at large.

"Tactical and intelligence-driven efforts have been intensified to apprehend the suspect and recover any arms in his possession," she added.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, commended the swift response of the operatives and the collaboration with the National Forest Security Service.

He described the operation as a reflection of the command's commitment to intelligence-led policing and crime prevention.

"The successful recovery of the stolen motorcycle and arrest of the suspects reflects the operational directives and crime-fighting vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, aimed at strengthening intelligence-led policing and enhancing public safety across the country," the commissioner said.

The command assured residents that efforts to apprehend the fleeing gang leader and recover the gang's weapons have been intensified.

Police also disclosed that the arrested suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
