Ilorin Muslims Mark Eid-El-Kabir with Prayers, Calls for National Unity

Date: 2026-05-28

Muslim faithful in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, joined millions of worshippers across Nigeria to observe this year's Eid-El-Kabir with prayers, reflection and renewed appeals for peace and national unity.

The two-rakkat Eid prayer was led by the Imam Imale of Ilorin, Sheikh Abdullahi AbdulHameed, who urged Nigerians to embrace sacrifice, love and tolerance values symbolised by the festival.

The prayer ground attracted prominent religious and political figures, including former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and other dignitaries, who emphasised the need for peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding and sustained hope amid the country's socio-economic challenges.

Speaking on behalf of the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the Emir's spokesperson, Abdulazeez Arowona, called on Nigerians to celebrate the festival peacefully and remain committed to the wellbeing of one another.

He also appealed to governments at all levels to intensify efforts towards tackling insecurity, warning that rising cases of kidnapping and banditry continue to pose serious threats to lives, economic activities and national development.

The Eid-El-Kabir celebration in Ilorin was characterised by prayers, exchanges of goodwill and renewed appeals for peace, stability and prosperity in Kwara State and across Nigeria.
