KWASU VC Announces Full Reaccreditation of Nine Undergraduate Programmes

Date: 2026-04-28

The Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Malete, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, has announced the full reaccreditation of nine undergraduate programmes presented during the October/November 2025 round of accreditation.

In a statement addressed to staff and students on Monday, the Vice-Chancellor attributed the success to the collective effort of both academic and non-teaching staff, as well as the support of the Kwara State Government under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

He also disclosed that the institution's MBBS programme received accreditation from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria in March 2026 to advance to the clinicals.

Prof Jimoh noted that teams from the National Universities Commission (NUC) have visited the institution for a series of resource verifications, which precede the commencement of new programmes.

He expressed optimism that the KWASU spirit that motivates both staff and students to put in their utmost best will lead to more successes in the exercise.

The Vice-Chancellor also addressed two matters that have generated concerns following the Senate's approval for the release of the Harmattan Semester results.

On the Professional/Sundry fee, Prof Jimoh clarified that the fee was initially billed to be paid at the beginning of the Harmattan Semester but was moved to the Rain Semester following a plea by student associations and the Student Union.

He stressed that the fee is not a result-checking charge as being touted, adding that the decision to move it to the Rain Semester was made by Management in response to the students' plea.

Regarding the restriction on intra-campus shuttle movement, the Vice-Chancellor explained that the decision was taken following the tragic death of a student in an accident with one of the shuttle buses on the Malete campus towards the end of the Harmattan Semester.

He noted that the restriction was imposed to prevent a reoccurrence, particularly as earlier efforts to curb the overzealousness of shuttle drivers within the campus did not yield the desired result.

"Kwara State University, Malete, cherishes her students. We will do everything possible to prevent a reoccurrence of that unfortunate incident," he said.

Prof Jimoh disclosed that the shuttle system will continue to ply only the tarmac to the main parking lot on campus and back, whilst intra-campus shuttle movement remains restricted.

He urged students to enjoy the serenity on campus as they move from the park to their various lecture venues, adding that staff, students, and visitors can attest to the fact that since the restriction, the untoward driving of shuttles and near accidents on campus have been eradicated.

The Vice-Chancellor called on everyone on all campuses to be law-abiding and go about their business whilst enjoying the beautiful, clean, green campus that is the hallmark of Kwara State University, Malete.

He expressed confidence that the institution can only get better as it continues to grow from strength to strength.

Prof Jimoh concluded by looking forward to a robust, engaging, and fulfilling Rain Semester for all members of the university community.
